I couldn’t find this… maybe I’m just lazy so I’ll ask here… is the new chip 64-bit? I guess not since the iMac can only be upgraded to 2GB now, it used to be 2.5GB. But maybe they just took that out because nobody in the world would pay that price…
The current Core Duos in the new machines are 32-bit. Intel’s roadmap for 64-bit chips is currently at something lke 3rd Quarter/September this year. The chip is called the Merom, and it’s looking to come in around the 2.33GHz speed, as part the Napa64 platform. Following that, search around for Santa Rosa, the successor to Napa64.
Also, bear in mind this is all speculation and rumour on unreleased hardware 🙂
