Converting to LDap

OK, If there is a title for someone less than a newbie (that does not imply mental retardation)- then that is me!!

Lemme splain:
Running a tiger server (after an interesting upgrade process), the user directory (?) is set for “/netinfo/defaultlocalnode” – evidently that needs to be a flavor of LDap if I want to set up portable home directories/ mobile users/ network user directories (what ever you want to call them this week).

Question: How do I convert the /NetInfo/DefaultLocalNode to be LDap??? (please use small words, I’m not the brightest bulb in the pack)

If I recall correctly, when setting up the server (in Panther), I checked that I wanted it to be the master (supplying info to other servers)- I did this because I thought I might need it in the future.
But everytime I open Workgroup Manager I get the dialog box=
“You are working in a directory node that is not visible to the network.”
I suppose that should have meant something to me the first time it popped up, but remember – below newbie & not brightest….

I have about 40 users.

Export/import= once exported, what setting changes do I need to make before importing them back?
By ‘…reset the passwords.’ you mean reenter them???
