Last night I checked in some changes, mostly in InstaUp2Date. For most people the only change that will impact them is that the feedback that InstaUp2Date gives is a quite a bit shorter as I have cut out a lot of things that were never really used. Mostly this update was about cleaning out a number of things that I put in InstaUp2Date at the start that never got used, and in general simplifying a lot of things.
Another possibly visible change for some is that I have revamped the code used to find items in the caches. InstaUp2Date now tried much harder to guess at a package’s name before opening a network connection to help it guess. One of the ways I am making this easier going forward is that items auto-downloaded into the cache will now have their checksums inserted into the file names. These are used when searching for packages, and should help out in a number of corner cases.
Mostly this revision is about cleaning up the plumbing in InstaUp2Date so that later I can make some changes. But since I have touched most of the internals, there is a real opportunity that I have introduced some new bugs. So testing would be nice.
I have a couple of minor updates on the way, maybe even one for tonight. But nothing big there.
