I’d like to help update the vanilla catalog files.

    So far, I’ve
    Gotten the downloads from Apple
Gotten the direct links to the downloads
    Checksummed the downloaded DMGs
    Updated my local Vanilla catalog.

I’m unsure of the correct order to apply the updates in – so for now I’ve mimicked the current files, and simply commented out the previous installs.

I’d post them both here – but they get my post flagged as spam.

    My current questions:
    1) What’s the best way to determine install order
    2) What’s the best way to double check my work? Re-image and run software update?

    Hey mgb,

answer to #1 – the order listed in install.log is probably the most scientific, great idea
#2 – yes, reimage and run softwareupdate again.

For the rest of the helpful folks out there, here’s the shorter version of the process I mentioned in my posts to the dev list:

    1. put base OS and most current combo onto a machine(preferably onto both a desktop and a laptop)
    2. run setup, open terminal, and capture the output of softwareupdate -l
    3. Apply the PUBLICLY AVAILABLE(as you put it, ‘downloads from Apple’) DMG’s in the order specified
    4. repeat steps 2&3 until it stops asking for more packages(and if you were able to test with a desktop and well as a laptop, compare the lists)
    5. ?
    6. Profit $$$

    7. Please let me know the model you tested on when you report your findings. Thanks!
