    Gentle Readers,

We are looking for a few good beta testers of a soon to be released BIND zone file configuration utility. The current incarnation of this software will allow basic DNS configuration aimed primarily at Mac OS X Server workgroups. The application, Bindery, will allow you to configure mail, name server, forward, reverse and alias records, or for the initiated MX, NS, A, PTR and CNAME records. The files produced will be standard BIND files compatible with BIND 8.2.3 and up. Also included will be a quick-start helper that will allow the user to populate forward and reverse records for a zone with a minimum of effort.

The application will allow creation and editing of both the zone files and of the BIND config file named.conf in addition to offering basic administration commands for the DNS server, such as log viewing and starting and stopping the daemon.

We are currently in late-alpha development and hope to ship this application in the next few weeks. This application should work with Mac OS X 10.2 Server and client and should also work on 10.1. However, we are specifically looking for beta testers who will be soon implementing Mac OS X Server 10.2.

The application will sell for $25 (USD) with all updates for a year after purchase included in the price. Beta testers will receive two free licenses for their feedback. We hope to have a “professional” version that will allow for the creation of master/slave configurations and other advanced features in the coming month or two.

Please drop an e-mail to [email protected] with a brief description of your current setup and e-mail address and we would be happy to consider you.

    Thanks,
    Joel Rennich

I guess the Beta testers are keen on getting Bindery, when can we expect the first prerelease versions to check them out?

The last time I looked at your Bindery app it didn’t support an MX record.

So it has moved on as promised …

Can we expect a valid configuration as a Public DNS, a Private DNS plus forwarders, both, either or none?

Support for writing out a named.conf file would also be useful, is that included?
