This is extremely odd and I don’t have a clue what to look at. Some of our outside contacts send email to multiple receptients that have .doc and/or .pdf attachments. Here is the odd part. Some of the recepients receive the mail fine. Other recepients receive the mail with the attachments renamed “winmail.dat” and are unable to open it. It is always the same recepients that get attachments correctly and the same that get it renamed. I can find nothing in the logs that even hint as to what is going on.

I am not clear on where this is happening. If incoming mail arrives for multiple receptients does the local server do the distribution from a single copy (meaning the problem is mine) or does the local server get one copy for each receptient (meaning the problem is more likely at the source)?

    I need help. TIA.

Thanks. Any idea what I might say to their tech support people? That it singles out only certain users, not all, in the same domain is really odd.

Oops. I just realized you said client side. I don’t know what you mean now. It is definately NOT the client as I can see in my server log that the file is winmail.dat before the client even gets it.

Just to close this out, this is apparenlty a known Microsoft mail server bug and has nothing to do with Panther Server. In the event someone else runs into this here is the Microsoft suggested workaround one might want to send to the message originator:
