I have a panther server, running as DHCP server. Every day, I see a computer named “PC-Pieter”. This computer is not a computer of our school and is probably connecting via the airport network.

Is it possible to add the mac-address from this computer into the dhcp server so it won’t get an ip-address?

Securing the Airport is not an option at this moment.

Ok, thanks. I found that I had to add an “deny” entry into the netinfo config/dhcp directory.

I will try to find more information on how to add the MAC-addresses.
    eg. 00:02:a5:2f:da:bb OR 0:2:a5:2f:da:bb, …

Note that this should not be considered a “security” setting, but just one to prevent an inadvertent DHCP address from being handed out. It’s rather easy to spoof MAC addresses, so “PC-Pieter” could just change his MAC address. If you are concerned about security, then you will have to adopt other measures (encrypted traffic on your network, etc.).

Indeed. At this moment, we are planning to secure the wireless network via WPA. But, we have a large school, so it will take a while before it will work.

    Thanks anyway.

well don’t do anything too secure over your wireless as WPA can be hacked fairly easily.
personally I will not use wireless, and the sites i look after are all hard wired.
