    Greetings All,

I have been looking for a solution to the problem of users walking away from a workstation without logging out. What I would like to find is something that could run on the workstation that would, after a specified period of inactivity, log the user out thereby unmounting their mounted server shares and protecting their locally stored files.

    Any ideas?

There is a screensaver module to help with this:

    http://www.solidsun.com/logoutae/

The trick is to get it set for every user, since screensaver prefs are save in ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost.

I suspect you could implement a LoginHook to run a script that uses the defaults command to force this setting, but i haven’t tried.

logoutae works great. They are working on some documentation for the login hook but it isn’t ready yet.

If you are planning on or already have 10.3 Server, auto logout is also a feature available via the Workgroup Manager. Later! 8)
