I have been having heaps of problems with our Xserve G5 running 10.3.9. For a month it will run beautifully without any problems having about 20 to 25 mac and 3 windows users connected at any one time.
But all of a sudden the afp will kick most (sometimes all) the mac users off and I have to either restart the service of reboot the server.

I have read and was told by someone that there are known issues with the AFP and samba services on the 10.3.x servers but I haven’t been able to find any good fixes on the net.

If anyone has any help and fixes I could try then help would be grand.

The xserve is setup as a standalone server, running AFP, OD, print and Windows FS. Mainly used for the 20+ macs (all on os x) and a few PCs logging onto 1 folder.
    HELP!

What kind of resources are being taken up by AFP? Backup Software?

The only backup program I have running is Carbon Copy Cloner. Its sceduled to run during the day at 10am, 1pm qand 4pm on only I shared folder (about 2-5gb in size) and at night after 9pm.

I monitored the server over the Xmas break (9 days) when no one was in the office and it was very happy. Its only when users connect where the problem starts.
