I have a colleague asking about Apple Network Assistant.

Does anyone know of resources on how to set it up.

Of particular importance would be the administration password that’s supposed to be in the manual that came with the server software (that documentation went missing with a previous employee)

    Thanks.

Apple Network Assistant is an application that facilitates collaboration in a computer room environment. The four available functions of ANA are as follows.

    1. Observe any other macintosh in the computer room.
    2. Control any other macintosh in the computer room.
    3. Share screens with multiple macintoshes in the computer room.
    4. Lock the screen of a specific macintosh or all macintoshes in the computer room.

It’s what was used to perform the Apple Remote Desktop Functions on Mac OS 8 & 9.

I am not sure about Network Assistant, but the newer Remote Desktop default password is XYZZY. You could try that.

Apple Remote Desktop controls OS 8, 9 and X. But to observe/control it has to be run on OS X.

Well it is a cheat on Minesweeper for windows 2k and xp. Then it’s also a cheat on some old old game to get out of the cave i think.

I have used both Apple Network Assistant and Apple Remote Desktop. Apple Network Assistant has more features than Remote Desktop. The ability to use the admin workstation to broadcast the input to it’s microphone to all other workstations speakers. I can’t remember the other ones off the top of my head, but there are other features that have been omitted from Remote Desktop. I used Network Assistant to “re-image” all the computers in classrooms back to a pre-configured base state. it worked pretty good.
