I’m having a strange issue with the open directory master. I upgraded to Leopard a few months ago, from a Tiger open directory and generally things have been going just fine. Two issues have crept up, however, with the new open directory:

    1) I’m unable to add a certain computer name because it tells me it already exists, but having looked up and and down, I can’t find the computer name anywhere. I’ve looked with the inspector tab in WGM, I’ve looked via the command line using ldapsearch, and it is not related to the MAC address, because I’ve tried adding the compute name without specifying a MAC address at all. I’ve been able to add other computer names just fine… it only appears to be this one. What I don’t know is if this computer name might have been added when I was running the Tiger OD, and was mangled somehow in the move to Leopard

    2) I’m unable to add a computer record for the host server that’s running the OD master. In this case, if I specify either the local name or the MAC address of the server, I get the same error telling me that name already exists, but can’t find any record of it using the same methods as in issue #1.

    A few other points:
    – it’s running 10.5.3
    – the server is bound to Active Direcory, but not it’s own open directory
    – other than these issues, everything is working fine

The whole reason this came up was I was trying to get the iCal service started and according a thread on the apple discussion list, you need to have a record of the host server in your own OD master in order for the service to start. So, I tried adding a record for the server that’s running the OD master, and that’s when I ran into issue #2. I noticed issue #1 last week, but didn’t worry about it because it wasn’t critical at the time. Now it seems that these issues may be part of a larger issue with the OD.

    Any ideas why?

I fixed this… It was because of a duplicate name in AD not in OD …
