Does anyone have any recommendations about whether or not to use FINK with OSX Tiger Server? My concern is that it might not understand the custom configuration tools that Tiger Server uses, and break them.

Fink can’t really break anything, it puts all its files into /sw as to not conflict with anything you might have installed or that Apple uses.

But OSX Server has its own PHP — does fink know about or does it install its own?

Install Fink after you’ve installed Tiger. If you’ve already installed Tiger, you’re better off doing a clean install than an update. The reason I say this is that the Apple installation of ClamAV, SpamAssassin and Jabber tries to create new users for each of these programs, but the script expects specific uid and gids for each of these creations. If you’ve already installed Fink and at any point it’s asked to set up some user accounts, you’ll already have these users; the Apple scripts will add fields to the accounts but not change the existing settings. The result? A whole load of folders and files for ClamAV etc that have the wrong owners and group settings.
