    a couple of weeks ago i was able to go through the article ‘spam and virus controls with postfix’ and have a successful install after some trials and tribulation.

    looking at the logs i thought that virus control was working but not spamassassin. i posted my logs but i did not get any answers. later i realized that this was because spamassasin was not configured (local.cf).

    i scrapped my install and configured postfix with anomy, sa and with rbl i am getting good success. but i still wanted to get back my clamav amavisd install so i tried the article again.

    so i ran cpan modules without spamassain…
    i am getting an error

    warning: you do not have permission to install into ///System/Library/Perl/5.8.1/darwin-thread-multi-2level at /System/Library/Perl/5.8.1/ExtUtils/Install.pm line 115
    Cannot forceunlink /System/Library/Perl/5.8.1/Net/Cmd.pm: Permission denied at /System/Library/Perl/5.8.1/File/Find.pm line 888

    NOT OK

    if anyone can help me here i would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
    i have been working on this for 3 weeks.

    yes, i did make the mistake of not entering sudo cpan

    everything ran and i got an ok but when running amvisd debug i get…

    Net::Server 2004/05/12-10:57:44 Couldn’t open pid file “var/amavis/amavisd.pid” [permission denined].\n\n at line 268 in file /Library/Perl/5.8.1/Net/Server.pm
    blah, blah Server closing!

    please note i did not install Mail::SpamAssassin since it’s already running. i assume if i run it will wipe out my current settings

    i am going to read your new article mactroll
