I can live with the slight delay at the moment. (…)[/p][/QUOTE]

These delays are the reason I am currently consulting this forum. I have Leopard running on a MacBook Pro and Leopard Server on a G4 Xserve. Making AFP connections from the MBP to one of the Xserve’s shares exhibits the delay that ingenious7 mentions. The same type of delay also happens when authenticating for a Screen Sharing session on the MBP to monitor the Xserve. Where does this delay come from, and how can I eliminate it?

I could imagine that the before authentication takes place there is some kind of protocol handshake that steps through several protocols in descending order of security reaching a timeout on each, before it uses the one that actually leads to authentication. If so, what might it be, and how can I configure things so that there is better immediacy?

An added piece of evidence is that my old Tiger Server doesn’t exhibit this when acting as an AFP client to the Leopard Server, and vice versa.
