I would like the default view of a afp share to be list not icon when a user logs on. When the user first logs on to the share everything comes up in icon view, they then set it to list and it stays that way until they log back in then it’s back to icons. Any ideas?

It was also brought to my attention that if you have classic clients logging on that if they create a file on their desktop and set the views as they want them, then drag that file to the server dump the info you want into the file, change the owner to a admin user, so no one can mess with the view, and that’s it. Now classic users can see things in a nice tidey order.

The process for setting a persistent client view option for a server volume is laid out at this Apple KB note:

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107482

On our servers, the owner of the volumes and directories was an administrator account. I created a dummy standard user named “view,” made it the owner of the folders I wanted to set up, then logged in remotely as “view” and cleaned up the views. Now all the remote clients see a tidy initial list view.
