adding replicas

I am working on centralizing Open Directory to a single Open Directory domain down from 52 to handle MCX for AD accounts and computers.

I created a new OD Master and one replica and have been binding clients to the replica.

I want to add at least one more replica. In order for the clients to see additional replicas that are added after the initial client side bind, would they need to be re-bound, or will the tree already be updated on the clients dynamically?

Also, for failover purposes, will clients only traverse up the replica tree, or will they also look for additional replicas at the same level to which the client is bound?
