This one has me stumped and I’m hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction.

I recently rebuilt and bound a 10.4.8 server to Active Directory that is using te extended schema. SSO works great for the Macs using afp or smb when they connect either based on the FQDN or IP address. The problem comes when users on bound windows machines try to connect to the server using IP address. When they do this they are unable to log in and have to use the FQDN. Normally this wouldnt be a problem but for this office it is. The server has 2 IP addresses and they would like to have some people use one IP and others use another.

When using IP the windows log shows the following:

2007/02/13 08:42:30, 2] /SourceCache/samba/samba-100.4/samba/source/auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(367)
check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [user.name] -> [user.name] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD
[2007/02/13 08:42:30, 2] /SourceCache/samba/samba-100.4/samba/source/smbd/server.c:exit_server(595)
Closing connections

(itals added to show edited info)

Kerberos seems to be working fine and the server is in the AD DNS system with reverse lookup’s added.

As I said, I’m stumped and I’m hoping someone might be able to shed some light on what might be causing this.

[EDIT]

After posting this the service stopped accpeting requests all together. Restarting the service seems to have fixed the issue but for how long I’m not sure.

Looking around the site it seems this may be a 10.4.8 issues but this machine is not an intel xserve so I’m not sure.
