I’ve successfully bound my Xserve to AD. I have a local directory with one user (apart from root of course) which is the admin created at installation.

This user is automatically included in the second directory, LDAP 127.0.0.1 I created on the server. I have bound AD to the Xserve and this is also available. I am in the priveleged position of having full administration rights granted to my AD account by the Win technicians and network manager, so I can work on the intergration.

I have made a test group in the LDAP directory and added my AD account to it. I have added a share point and imposed some dock and log-in preferences on the test group in Workgroup Manager.

They work when I log-in to the server directly with my AD account, but not when I log into the client Mac (which is bound to AD and to LDAP on Xserve) with my AD account (I just get a standard account, which doesn’t appear to have Workgroup Manager prefs imposed on it, or, incedentally, mount my Windows home directory, which it should do automatically in 10.3.4, shouldn’t it ?).

I’m trying to achieve the goal of having AD users authenticate on the Macs and then be managed by Workgroup Manager on Xserve when they log into client macs. I’m following this http://www.macwindows.com/ADinstruct.html and I’m stuck on step 5.

Anyone who can offer help to a network novice step by step is a saint…

    cheers

I think there’s an issue with the network time server.

The network time is drifting on my test client Mac. My Windows home folder does not mount when I log into the server. Although the client Mac is bound to AD, it has stopped logging me in with my AD account.

Joel – do have any tips for checking port 123 for network time on the server ?
I’ve opened it on the client but it’s not listed on the firewall settings on the Xserve.

I’ve found this helpful so far http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030217004435671&query=network+drift

As in the example, my network time server’s DNS (on the LAN) appears but I have a value of 16 as mentioned both on the client and the Xserve when I execute [i:dbedf76368]ntpq -p[/i:dbedf76368].
    cheers
