We’re binding all of our Panther machines to our campus’ Active
Directory, and Mobile Accounts are proving very beneficial to us. By
caching credentials, people can still log into their computer if the
network or AD is down, for example.

In Panther, I can log in, create the Mobile Account, unplug the
network cable, restart, and still log back in. In Tiger (10.4.1), I
cannot do this. After I restart, I can’t log into the Mac until I
reattach the network cable. This is a big problem for us. Are Mobile
Accounts supposed to behave this way in Tiger? I know in Panther’s
Directory Access, there’s a checkbox that says, “Cache last user logon
for offline operation” that isn’t in Tiger’s Directory Access. I never
figured out what this does, because even with it unchecked,
credentials were still cached with the Mobile Account.
