in a test setup with w2k3 r2 handling AD and DNS and a 10.4.11 server handling OD, AFP, smb, creating user homes on the AD box leads to permissions errors but creates the home folders. The homes assume default ownership assigned to the “homes” share (admin owns, domain users rw, everyone read) and the login account has no access.

It looks like the domain admin can’t change the ownership of the homedirs to the correct user. Deleting and recreating all with createhomedir -a works properly.

    What am I missing?

I have done this by assigning the Domain Admins full control of the Home share point, this then gives them appropriate rights to set the permissions, have also migrated existing data to storage on the mac and use cacls to reset the permissions again ensuring that domain admins have full control to the share point.
