Do any of you guys have any recommendations for ensuring that PHD syncing is happening properly? I’ve noticed that syncs have been failing on several hosts, but I don’t see any good way of accounting for whether or not syncs are working the way I think they should be, or of being notified when syncs fail.
My setup is a 10.5 server using Open Directory, with NFS network home directories, syncing to PHD accounts.
Here’s an example of a common failure scenario:
A file that will put a user over their quota on the NFS server will kill the PHD sync. PHD will sync any changed files up until this file (alphabetically), it will then fail to upload the file, and the sync stops there. Nothing following that file (or the directory that file is in) will be uploaded, leaving potentially important files on the local disk without a backup (yikes).
PHD reports that the sync completed, the user isn’t notified, and in turn, I’m not notified.
So, what have you guys been doing to monitor/check up on PHD syncs?
Thanks.
