    Hello all,

I’ve run into an odd problem and am looking for people who experienced the same problem with their 3com switch or (even better) found a solution.

Recently I purchased 2 3com 4226 switches. I didn’t set them up specifically and connected them to a set of Apple clients straight out of the box. Network traffic seems to work as advertised but Apple’s Bonjour/Rendezvous traffic gets blocked for no apparent reason. This means that several services are not available to my users. Sometimes it does work for a second or two but in general it doesn’t. A Bonjour scanner revealed no activity and confirmed my suspicion that the switch was the culprit. Exchanging the 3com switch for a cheap hub immediately solved the problem and all Bonjour services were available.

My 3com distributor has no clue of what’s going on and neither does 3com. Does anyone have similar experiences ?

    Best regards,
    Sander

I agree with you on that but this is a private network for a customer with a big house and lots of gear 🙂 In the meantime I’ve submitted the issue to 3com. In their knowledgebase was soomething that referred to the default setting of IGMP snooping that had to be enabled in order for mDNS to work. Haven’t got time to try it out but will keep you up to date.

    Thanks for the feedback.
