ParticipantI’ve poured through the forums and have spent hours trying to get a good build with the above mentioned Packages. So far haven’t had much luck. Have even made sure that my host (building) OS was 10.5.6 (an install from the same CD as I’m using for my Base OS dmg).
I’ve tried 1.4b4, v187 and 188, 200 and 210. I’ve tried the host OS being 10.5.6 and 10.5.7. I’m running the InstaDMG build from the same machine I want to develop the image for. But still no luck – I’ve had various forms of 10.5.7 either not installing fully, or Safari 4 and iLife 9.0.3 not installing.
Is anyone having success with this, and if so how? Do I need to give up and build my image manually? I have a pretty tight deadline for a new image here so I’m getting very stressed and thinking I’m going to build a 10.5.6 image, then possibly do a manual update and cleanup and repackage, but that sucks.

ParticipantI made successful images with 10.5.7 (running form 10.5.7), but I know that iLifeSupport is a problem (and my guess is Safari 4 has the same problem), and have written about it a few times, and the two possible corrections:
1. You might be able to use an InstallerChoices.xml (new style) to get around the problem (I have not had the time to test).
2. I have registered basic bugs with Apple on this, and intend to file much better ones once I get some extra time (create some examples to show the bugs without requiring the big packages).
On a side note, I just lost my job in a large layoff, so I am having to spend more time looking for a new job than working on InstaDMG. I plan get back to it, but it will be a few weeks at least.

ParticipantThanks for the reply – the sudden new package style that doesn’t work is frustrating and just lost me a bunch of time (on a deadline), and also I missed it in QA on another image that is being put out as we speak, so I’m frantically trying to rebuild a new image to replace the now known-faulty one before it goes out to 3500 laptops. I get a bit frustrated with Apple sometimes when these sudden changes aren’t very well documented.
I guess I’ll try the InstallerChoices, and if that doesn’t work will continue with what I’m doing right now – building the perfect 10.5.6 image with InstaDMG, then image it to a machine, update to 10.5.7, remove cruft, and manually create a new DMG. Hopefully that will work.
Re: the job loss, that totally sucks – we’ve never met, but from what I’ve seen on AFP548 and the work you’ve done for the community you seem knowledgeable, hard working, and willing to share. I suspect the company doesn’t know what they’ve lost. All the best in the job search.

ParticipantAnother question, you said you can get a successful 10.5.7 build when run from a 10.5.7 host OS. What version of InstaDMG were you running that with? I can get 10.5.7 to install no problem, but if I start looking closely I see that things like Mail aren’t getting the 10.5.7 version installed, so it’s not a successful install unfortunately.
Also, am just looking at the InstallerChoices stuff, but when I go through the process of getting the choiceIdentifiers, I’m ending up with pretty much no options – for both Safari 4 and OS X 10.5.7 I’m getting the following choice options:
choiceIdentifier
manual
—
choiceIdentifier
__ROOT_CHOICE_IDENT__ Doesn’t seem to offer much in the way of choices unfortunately. iLife Support has a bit more, but nothing obvious like the OS X System disks.
I’m almost considering using Jamf Composer to try and repackage 10.5.7, but don’t like getting off the main path so to speak, as that means way more QA testing.

ParticipantYou can pretty much bet that I am always running the latest development version of InstaDMG… or rather that the latest development version of InstaDMG is what I am running… *grin*. But I have seen 10.5.7 success with rev200 and above (so with chroot jails). Note that Mail.app was masked out on my image (it was not really usable with the quotas on network homes), so I don’t know that one specifically, but 200 did correct a bunch of things like that.
