We have a dual 1.8 G5 with 2gb of ram running AFP and SMB only on 10.4.8

After about 8+ hours our 10.4.8 server becomes un-responsive. I lose ARD connectivity, AFP and SMB shares become unavailable, applications take a really long time to open, either the black arrow in the dock pulses or the app beachballs. When I view the activity viewer nothing is consuming excess memory or ram, CPU usage stays below 5%.

After a restart all is fine again, very fast and snappy. As the day goes on though, same story.

What can I do to resolve and diagnose this issue?

Is your server an Open Directory Master?
I was experiencing similar issues when using half-bridge mode.

So I did a clean install of the OS, immediately followed by a permission repair, then the 10.4.8 Combo update, repair permissions. reloaded Rumpus FTP server and everything looked fine. BUT, this morning tried to log in via ARD nothing from home, when I got here the server was unresponsive, lots of dock bouncing. When the activity monitor finally opened everything seemed normal.
