(i am x-posting this to the “web” thread)

I have just set up a mail server on a 10.3.3 box with dynamic dns hostname pointing to it. i have imap/smtp with CRAM auth configured. this works fine from 10.3 mail client, BUT…

when i enable webmail, default squirrelmail page will load, prompting for user/password, but all authentication attempts fail with message “Unknown user or password incorrect.”

i have tried turning off authentication for the mail server, but no luck. it does not matter whether my user is in the local netinfo database or an ldap one.

i’m guessing that the squirrelmail does not know about my user account, but i’m not sure and can’t find much 10.3-specific info…

that is why apple give you multiple check boxes – what is the plugin for more secure webmail?

seems that postfix sometimes does not start after enabling smtp – check overview in server admin to see if all services are running – command “start postfix” from terminal can help – however, I had to reboot server “shutdown -r now” from remote ssh session.

[quote:fc2caf2bcd=”MacTroll”]You need to have plain logins enabled for Squirrelmail to work. It can’t do the MD5 hashes unless you install an additional plugin.

Any tips on where to find such a thing?

it’s in server admin, in the advanced tab, i think.

cd to /usr/share/squirrelmail type sudo perl ./configure and go to server settings-smtp authentication and choose cram-md5.

    hope that helps 🙂

    i used

    sudo /etc/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl

    any disadvantage to this?

does that command let you edit your squirrelmail settings? if so, than i wouldn’t think so.

yes, it does almost exactly what your command did. i got the command from some squirrelmail faq.
