Hi guys,
We are experiencing 10 min logins on our 10.5.2 clients that are bound to AD.
We are part of a global domain, weu.mycompany.global is our subdomain & mycompany.global is the root level domain.
With some help from Joel (thanks, btw) I saw that at login the Mac is querying all DC’s from the root level down.
So it starts at mycompany.global & then checks aus.mycompany.global, usa.mycompany.global, weu.mycompany.global & so on.. until it decides which one it likes.
So after some poking around I found that resolv.conf has an option called ndots that sets how far back DNS queries go, (the default is to check any domain with one period in it).
This makes sense as on our subdomain it is obviously first checking weu.mycompany.glbal & then mycompany.global as nbots is set to 1.
So seeing as mycompany.global is just the root domain with all locations having there own subdomains I was wondering if any of you guys know how to change resolve.conf’s ndots setting to 2?
(I know it will still query all DC’s under weu.mycompany.global, but it should be quicker!!).
I hope above makes sense!!!
Thanks In advance,
bentoms.
