Policy Banner for Snow Leopard

Folks,

Ok, so I've been quiet for a while, but here's a version of Policy Banner for Snow Leopard.

Open source, MIT-licensed, go have fun with it. 🙂

  • Thank you. This is something that will be a nice addition to our installs. One question though. Will this work with BootPicker? Since some of our installs are dual boot setups with BootPicker, would this conflict with it?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

  • I don’t think it will as this loads from the login window, not before.

    • This works really well. I like the fact that I can customize the style and size of the text using the System Fonts. Also, it’s much better than the clunky Workgroup Manager login window, which cuts off the text. Has anyone deployed it through MCX settings? I’m going to try to figure out, the readme has a basic overview on this.

      Thanks

      • I’ve setup MCX for PolicyBanner, but since there are also local Prefs, I’m not sure if it’s working yet through MCX. Will experiment with that in a little bit.

I’ve answered my own question about if this will work with BootPicker, and the answer is yes.

It might not be as elegant as I would like but it still does the trick.

What happens, is that PolicyBanner comes up first on top of the BootPicker screen. You can still click on the OS buttons which poke out from behind Policy Banner. If booted to Mac, you still need to still accept PolicyBanner before you can log in. Of course, you can always click on the accept button in PolicyBanner first. (I have PolicyBanner set to re-spawn in about a minute, though I might push that up a bit to 120 seconds or so.) And if the user chooses Windows before accepting PolicyBanner, then no big deal, since there is something sorta not really similar on the Windows side.

It would be nice if I could get PolicyBanner to come up after BootPicker, but for now I’ll take what I can get. I like PolicyBanner better then the text in the login window, which as mentioned, gets cut up and is not quite “In Your Face.”
