Not sure if you noticed this, but you need to have Leading Zeros for your directory structure, or 10 gets run before 2. I.e:

    01
    02
    03
    ….
    10
    11
    12

The default ls sorting order goes like this
    1
    10
    11
    12
    2
    3
    4
    5

I ran into that when applying iLife updates BEFORE I installed the Main iLife Package. Needless to say that didn’t quite work.

Actually you CAN test an xsan without all the fibre goodness, but that’s really only to test the XSan admin app. You can create a single node Xsan that uses firewire drives as the LUNS/storage pools. This clearly isn’t the same as a real san and obviously you won’t be able to test throughput, etc. But it at least allows you to test xsan a bit. If you have an ADC select account you can d/l a dev version of Xsan to test out so your investment is minimal.

I would highly recommend Peachpit’s Xsan quick reference guide as it is an invaluable overview to all that is xsan.

For those curious about NetBoot, it should be of little surprise that you’ll have to maintain separate images for PowerPC and Intel macs. Somewhere in my dreams I hoped that you could use the same image, but that would require some impossible magic.

    In case you doubt:
