I’m using the following workflow; the goal is to build an image based on the 10.6.0 installation DVD and to add the 10.6.2 Combo Update to the image so the clients are deployed with 10.6.2.

    Define Image Source
    Enable Automated Installation
Add Packages and Post-Install Scripts (Add the 10.6.2 combo update .pkg file)
Customize Package Selection (10.6.2 Update is selected as Default)
    Create Image

The image builds cleanly and then I try to NetInstall a client. The install works fine, but in the installer log when it tries to install the 10.6.2 combo update, it throws an error saying that the package is untrusted. Has anyone seen behavior like this and knows of a way to resolve it? Is there a better way to accomplish building a 10.6.2 image from the 10.6.0 DVD and combo update?

Sounds like a bug that was fixed with the version of SIU that came with 10.6.2 Server update. Make sure your host system you are using to build the images was updated to 10.6.2.

The system that I’m using to build these images is at 10.6.2, using the Server Admin Tools 10.6.2; all the latest updates.

Greetings, I hope this post is in the proper place…
I’m having trouble creating Customized NetInstall Images on 10.6.2, here’s the story…

I am having little success setting up my 10.6.2 Server for doing NetInstalls.
I’ve been doing this for years on prior versions successfully, but something is not working in 10.6.2 Server. Here’s the setup:

    Server:
    Macmini SL Server 10.6.2
    4GB Ram, 500GB HD
USB to Ethernet Adapter running netboot service.
Running System Image Utility from the Server itself.
NetBoot, NFS, Open directory are all functioning properly.
No other netboot servers on the LAN

Client is a new MacBookPro 15″

I can successfully boot from a Basic NetInstall of the OS X 10.6 DVD
(Not clicking the Advanced option in System Image Utility)
    Launch System Image Utility
    Select NetInstall Image
Leave all the defaults, then click create.
Once it’s done, enable the image in netboot.
Client boots fine into NetInstall Image and installs successfully

    Here’s what’s not working:
    Launch System Image Utility
    Select NetInstall Image
    Click Customize
    Workflows Open
Define Image Source: Mac OS X Install DVD
    Partition Disk
    Enable Automated Installation
Add Packages & Post Install Scripts
add the packages I’ve created with COMPOSER (they work fine in 10.5x Server)
    Customize Package Selection
Uncheck Language Translations, Addt’l fonts, Printer drivers
    -Create Image
    Type: NetInstall
Installed Volume: (See below for all the options I’ve tried here)
    Save to: NetBootSP0
Image Name: NetInstall OSX 10.6 verXX
Network Disk: NetInstall OSX 10.6 verXX
Image Index: Always different from the last version 501, 502, etc.
    Click Save
    Click Run
It builds the image, once it’s ready enable it.
Boot off the network, it starts the install and says:
—–> Installing Mac OS X onto the drive “null” <--------- And it sits here and does nothing, the progress bar does not move nor does the Server Admin Connection % Status move from 0. Now back to the Installed Volume selection above. First I tried just entering the name of the Image I was creating, in this case: NetInstall OS 10.6 ver1 Same error above So I called Apple and they said to set it to the source DVD install volume: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD Same error above I tried removing the Partition Disk Option, and then it will successfully install, however once it completes the client will not boot. It looks like I'm going to have to try nearly every option until I get something working here. I know when I call Apple back they are going to say they don't support "CUSTOMIZED" options, though I clearly had no issues in 10.5 Server. Anybody out there have a clue Thanks in advance LJS

    Hello.

Here is my quick two cents…
I do a netboot image and works all the time unitl 10.6.2(i jumped from 10.5.8 to 10.6.2)

I create from a “master imac”… a machine that i cherry out with all updates and my settings/apps.

Automated INSTALL(with a specific hard drive name) DOES NOT WORK on 10.6.2 as of right now….

APPLE KNOWS THIS AND IS WORKING ON THIS(that has been told to me by an apple engineer)

i have stopped my auto installs because i dont like being right at the computer to choose the destination hard drive.

However… it works if you choose the AUTO install with “selected by user” is set.

    please fix!
