I have an Xserve G5, it has been configured with a mirrored raid array and a standby spare, I need to press the standby spare into service as a normal drive. ( I have a spare drive in a caddy and ready to swap out a failed drive in the array)

I can see I need to use the RemovefromRAID command, but can’t seem to get the sysntax right. Does anyone have a walk through for this.

I suppose it is testiment to Apple that this is the first time I have had to use the Terminal window.

    Many thanks, Steven.

    Hi,

I thought it may help if I posted a diskutil list, and show the disk I want removed from the array.

    /dev/disk0
    #: type name size identifier
    0: Apple_partition_scheme *76.7 GB disk0
    1: Apple_partition_map 31.5 KB disk0s1
    2: Apple_Boot 128.0 MB disk0s3
    3: Apple_RAID 76.6 GB disk0s4
    /dev/disk1
    #: type name size identifier
    0: Apple_partition_scheme *76.7 GB disk1
    1: Apple_partition_map 31.5 KB disk1s1
    2: Apple_Boot 128.0 MB disk1s3
    3: Apple_RAID 76.6 GB disk1s4
    /dev/disk2
    #: type name size identifier
    0: Apple_partition_scheme *76.7 GB disk2
    1: Apple_partition_map 31.5 KB disk2s1
    2: Apple_Boot 128.0 MB disk2s3
    3: Apple_RAID 76.6 GB disk2s4
    /dev/disk3
    #: type name size identifier
    0: Apple_HFS Raid Set *76.6 GB disk3

I want to remove disk 2 from the array disk 3

    Many thanks in advance
