ParticipantI wanted DreamWeaver to connect to my website (OS X 10.2.3) using FTP… WebDAV isn’t working right now (keeps returning 200 errors… clues?) so that was my next choice.
So all I have to do is turn on FTP services using Server Settings, right? Right! And that’s what I did.
Problem is, all of my file listings, acquired either from DreamWeaver or simply by ftp’ing to my server, return “.bin” after the files in the listings… well, some of them do, anyway.
Here’s a straight listing of the root directory of my site:
[code:1:6392ae97f6][Centipede:WebServer/Documents/{omitted}] admin% ls -lo
total 768
drwxrwxr-x 566 admin admin – 19244 Dec 12 20:59 ComicZone

-rw-rw-r– 1 admin admin – 158 Feb 14 2001 webinclude.ssi
[/code:1:6392ae97f6]
And here’s how it appears in an FTP session listing:
[code:1:6392ae97f6]ftp> ls -lo
227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,1,2,19,211)
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for directory listing.

[/code:1:6392ae97f6]Can you see why I might be a tad cornfused? Some of them show with a .bin and others don’t. And these same files with the .bin are now magically 2^n in size! What controls these behaviours (er, “behaviors”)?
Thanks,

ParticipantI think this has to do with MacBinary
You can edit the ftp config file and change the setting

ParticipantWell, then there’s that big question in the sky: what FTP config file? I’ve done my darndest to go looking for such a beast and haven’t found it yet.
Anybody?
Thanks,
BillPS I solved the WebDAV 200 errors by changing the owner and group to www on all of the files in the /Library/WebServer/Documents/ directories.

ParticipantOK, Joel, you know this stuff cold! I am impressed.
I put that line in and it works beautifully.
Many thanks!
BillPS What is this “server list” of which you speak?
