    Hello,

I’m having some problems with ARD (3.3.2) at a client where we are trying to use the Directory Service Scanner in ARD. We’ve set up the ard_admin group with the right members and also some computer lists. The lists show up in ARD but they are always empty (no clients). OD is 10.6.4 and all clients are 10.6.3+.

Has anyone actually gotten this to work? Any hints to send me along the right track?

    Many thanks in advance.

we tried this long time ago and it did not work so I deployed local hidden admin accounts for ARD access.

The DS based authentication (ard_admin group and so on..) actually works. What didn’t work was the “Directory Service Scanner” in ARD.
I sent this in as a bug to Apple and predictably got “Works as intended.” in return.

Turns out that the “Directory Service Scanner” is not a scanner at all, but actually a filter to use on top of the “All Computers” list.
One can discuss the aptness of calling it a scanner then…

    😕

I’ll look into finding another way of populating the ARD lists from OD. The filter is of little use.

OK sorry I thought you were talking about authentication over ARD to OD accounts….

You are referring to when you right click on a scanner in ARD and do so by Directory Server? This does work for me, but only on computers I did authenticated binds to when binding to server.
