I’ve been googling this for the last few hours, and (while I *have* found some interesting solutions for other projects,) I must not be using the right search terms.

I was told that you could deny a network user the ability to shut down or reboot the machine, or to eject volumes, using Attributes in Workgroup Manager. I looked through the default attributes, but I’m pretty sure I don’t want to start messing around with those settings without some prior knowledge. Any pointers?

    Hi,

You’ll need to be managing the user, group, computer or computer group to do this.

If you’re wanting to do this from the Loginwindow – in WGM open the ‘Login’ Preference Pane in the Window option you can remove the Restart and Shutdown button.
From the Finder Preference Pane if you choose the Commands Tab you can remove the ability to eject volumes/media and remove restart/shutdown from the menu.

If you need some screenshots please let me know and I can email them through.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Antz
