We have a number of macs authenticating via AD, and mounting a personal windows share on the desktop as they log in. We have disabled the “Shared” items on the sidebar of the finder windows as they are confusing and a possible security risk.
Students are looking for their personal windows shares in the sidebar, not seeing it, and assuming that the home folder is the share, thus saving their stuff locally, not on to the server.
I would like to place a shortcut from the windows share onto the sidebar to alleviate this issue (without enabling the “Shared” menu). Is there a script that anyone knows about that can do this and is deployable via ARD? Obviously it would have to be configured to run at login for any AD authenticated user….
