    Hadn’t seen anyone post this, and I haven’t been experimenting with InstaUpToDate. Wish I had the opportunity.

    Given these parameters:

    – Retail 10.5.0 Leopard DVD
    – Intel Mac
    – Disabling all printer drivers, additional fonts, X11, and language translations
    – Ignoring Firmware and EFI updates

    These updates are necessary at 4:05 p.m. CDT, 7/2/08 (Combo update should be first, I think the order of the rest doesn’t matter):

    – 10.5.4 Combo
    – QuickTime 7.5
    – iTunes 7.6.2
    – AirPort Utility 5.3.2
    – Java Update for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1

    YMMV, depending on which disc you’re installing from, whether you’re on a PPC or Intel machine, OEM software (iWork, iLife…), etc.

    The Java update only applies to 64bit (Core 2 Duo and Xenon) machines, and can cause some problems (at least with the Java picker) on other machines.

    True.

    What exactly is the Java picker? My experience with Java is just making sure its updated enough to run Oracle Financials.

    I am referring to /Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences.app. It allows you to choose what version of Java you would like to run by default (1.4.2, 1.5, 1.6). This is important in our environment because students are required to run different versions for different classes (no requirement for 64bit there though).

    I would also not trust that this update when applied to 32bit computers does not break something else.

    I figure this thread could use an update:

    Given a default install (no customizations) from a US Retail 10.5 DVD (Apple PN 2Z691-6037-A), as of 7/24/2008 at 09:30 CDT, the following Apple updates are required:
    – 10.5.4 Combo
    – QuickTime 7.5
    – Front Row Update 2.1.3
    – Airport Utility 5.3.2
    – iLife Support 8.3
    – iTunes 7.7
    – Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1 1.0
    – HP Printer Drivers 1.1 (only required if you use an HP printer)

    Following a subsequent full install of iLife ’08 from a US retail disc, the following updates are required:
    – iMovie 7.1.0
    – iMovie 7.1.4 (requires iMovie 7.1.0 update first)
    – iPhoto 7.1.0
    – iPhoto 7.1.4 (requires iPhoto 7.1.0 update first)
    – GarageBand 4.1.1
    – GarageBand 4.1.2 (requires GarageBand 4.1.1 update first)
    – iWeb 2.0.3
    – iWeb 2.0.4 (Requires iWeb 2.0.3 update first)
    – iDVD Update 7.0.2
    – iMovie HD 6 (Optional)
