I work in a school environment and this morning I have had 4 teachers come to me with the exact same problem.

This involves MS Word 2004 for Mac, printing of anything, and an application called PowerGrade.

    1. PowerGrade will not open.
    2. Word will open but when printing, the application shuts down immediately and wants me to send the problem to Apple (which I have done)
    3. Nothing will print from any applications because that application will shut down and want to go to Apple.

    I have reinstalled PowerGrade
    Reinstalled Office 2004 for Mac
Reinstalled the OS (Panther) and updated it. The reinstall was archive and install.

These “solutions” have not remedied the situation.

Please, do you have any suggestions?

    thank you

This is probably not the best place in the world to ask a general troubleshooting question regarding a Panther client machine, but I’d take a wild guess that your printer drivers are to blame for Word crashing. What’s the stack trace look like in the log?

I’m sorry, I thought that this was ok to post here. I just needed some help and thought this would be the best place. I was just at my wits end.

I will take a look at the print server and see what is going on.

    Thank you for the advice.

When I have experienced this sort of problem, it is usually a print driver issue. Usually you will have the option of downloading either a pcl or ps driver. Make sure you try both to see if one of them works for that particular program. I have found that drivers can be hit or miss at times. Also on a mac, sometimes selecting a generic driver will resolve this problem.
