Our production environment is still Tiger, and probably will be until July.

So does anybody know if it is OK to use a Leopard-based administration station
to install the Tiger Server Admin tools and administer Tiger-based servers?

Allegedly, the 10.5 tools are ok to administer 10.4.11 when it arrives. I prefer to just leave the older 10.4 tools on the drive and use them when administering 10.4 boxes. Just rename the folder from /Applications/Server to /Applications/Server104 so the new 10.5 tools don’t overwrite them.

I was just about to ask about this. I have a 10.4.11 server and have been administering it with my 10.4.9 Macbook Pro. I recently updated the MBP to Leopard, now 10.5.1 and I’m trying to administer the server from there (here, actually). I downloaded the 10.5 server admin tools and when I tried to connect to the server it said this version of the admin tools didn’t work with my server version.

Then I downloaded the 10.4.11 server admin tools and tried to install that, but it refuses to install on 10.5.1 for an “unknown reason.”

    Any ideas?

I’m about to copy the admin tools from my old 10.4.9 drive to see if they work, but how the hell is it supposed to work? Apple’s documentation is spotty at best.

    Thanks.

Copying over the tools works fine.

Bug in the installer I guess (that it won’t install Admin Tools 10.4.11 on Leopard).
