Hello –
I have two G5 Quad machines, both with OS X Client 10.4.10.
Several users have accounts on one of the machines (call it the master).
I want to set up the other machine so that if someone logs in on it, it acts the same as if the person had logged in on the master machine (their home directory, preferences, etc. are ready to go).
I have succeeded in doing this to some extent (using netinfo), but it doesn’t seem to be reliable (sometimes I can’t log in, users can’t easily see the public directories of other users, iPhoto doesn’t seem to understand the remote home directory location, etc.).
Another approach I’ve looked at is to set up Open Directory. I have Apple’s reference books (Mac OS X v10.4 System Administration Reference, vol. 1 & 2). It looks like I may be able to get this to work, but some things are missing (like slapconfig).
Is this a practical thing to do without OS X Server? If so, where can I find information on how to do this?
Thanks,
Paul
