I am not sure if anyone else is getting this, but at one of my elementary schools we have installed a new dual core intel xserve and have two labs of dual core intel imacs. When the students log into the lab intel imacs occasionally 5 to 15 of them will get the admin dock, they get their documents and group shared folders but they do not get the appropriate applications for the workgroup. They have to log out, restart and then log back in, that seems to get them the right dock. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Are you using the Computer Management section in the WGM? If you are, try customizing the dock under the preferences for those labs.

If you are not, create a new list, click the button with “…” and add all of your iMacs. Then select the list, click preferences and set the dock you want to appear for users.

I would suggest unchecking the “Merge With Users”. This will prevent the system throwing up the default set of icons in addition to what you want.

Yes we are using Computer Management and I do not merge with users dock. I manage 11 elementary school xserves and this is the only school where this is happening. Thanks for your input though.

They are getting the local admin dock that I created on the base image. They do not get the application dock that should be there for the workgroup that they are logging into. For example I create a local admin account and place items like server admin, workgroup manager etc in the dock. This should only be seen if the user logs in as admin with the appropriate password. However when they log in with their user name and password and then select a workgroup to go into, instead of the items that should be in the dock for the workgroup they get the local admin dock. I know they have authenicated since they get their document and group shared folders in the dock, they just dont get the correct applications. Hope this helps.
