Hi,
I notice that quite a few people are using Bakbone’s Netvault and ADIC Scalars of one sort or another and wondered if anyone could offer any sage words of advice.
We have Netvault installed on 3 servers (1 fileserver, 1 mailserver, both as clients and a backup server as master). All are connected to an ADIC Scalar 100 via a Qlogic 5200. They are also connected to a Xyratex RAID and 2 Xserve Raids. We have zoned it out so that a port on each HBA can see the Scalar and the other port on each HBA talks to the storage. This was advised by Bakbone so that no storage traffic intereferes with the tape backup. The file and mail servers are configured to have the drives shared to them by the backup server (what Bakbone call Smart Clients)
We are having huge problems getting the servers to write to the Scalar. Sometimes they will write upto 80GB and then the backup will fail, sometimes they fail straight away. It seems that at some point the Library becomes unavailable to whatever host is writing to it.
I suspect it may have something to do with either port speed neegotiation, IO StreamGuard (RSCN suppresion) or Device Scan, or a combination thereof, but I am not certain.
We have jumped through hoops with Bakbone’s support to try to get this solved but no answers as yet. Has anybody got any ideas/advice on this that may help us?
Cheers
Dan
