Just installed 10.4.7 Universal on a couple of machines (XServe G4-slot load and dual proc G5 tower). Everything installed fine and was moving along w/out issue until I tried to join the servers to AD. I eventually got the machines to bind, it just took 2-3 passes.

The machine account was created in AD the first go-around, but looking at the Directory Access/AD GUI it read “unbind” with all the configured fields blank. After restarting the server (didn’t try killing DirectoryService), it reads “bind” and none of the configuration is holding. A subsequent attempt at joining asks if I would like to join existing account (yes, makes sense) and the server will typically join w/out issues. DNS is fine as are time (server) settings. I have not had this problem occur in the past (60+ similar configurations). Thoughts?

I’ve seen this lately on Client 10.4.7. Last week I bound 6 or 7 clients to our AD and had this issue occur at least 2 out of the 7. Had to restart and rebind as well. Finally worked properly, just took it a while.

Had a similar issue with non GC domain controller with server 10.4.7. bound a few times under non gc, everything showed up in contacts and authentication but couldn’t log in to server using domain account. rebooted and everything was blank. re-bound to the gc and everything was smooth first time. Weird because i’d bound to the non gc before in it’s current role with no issues. Strange indeed.

I’ll just mention that that a server I upgraded last evening took ~5 attemps (including a need to force quit Directory Access app). However, this was a fully updated 10.4.7 Universal …. perhaps something with a security update? I haven’t heard anything from our techs yet on any client side bind issues. Thanks.
