I’m trying to setup a NetInstall image for Intel iMacs, but when running the image creation software it reports that “there was an error creating the disk image”. The server has made other images successfully and the HDD hosting the source is 500GB.

I was able to successfully create the image before I installed Final Cut Studio, which also made the source size about 50GB. Is there a limit of the size of the source? Does Final Cut put something that prohibits imaging?

I’m sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but it seems there is a bug in the Apple Imaging software. If the size of your images goes above a certain amount (not sure how much), the image creation fails.

I had the same problem when installing FCS, and a couple of other packages without FCS.

I would suggest, if you can’t get the Apple imaging software to create the image, try using Bombich’s Net Restore Helper ([url]www.bombich.com[/url]) to create the images.

I use that to create my images, with FCE and Adobe on the source dmg which brings the image files to aroud 35GB. I couldn’t see how 50GB images would be impossible so I would agree it is a bug in the Apple software.

I made the change to Net Restore Helper to create my images because of all the errors I faced in Apple’s software. Probably more of a user issue though. 😳

Hi, I am using Leopard server SIU. It creates NBI successfully but while doing netinstall, it shutdown machine. Any idea or any suggestion.
DMG is fine. I can load it using firewire on any machine.

The Leopard version of SUI is flaky.. I also had problems with it making broken netinstall images and telling me they are good. Trash the .nbi and start it again. Also make sure you are updated to 10.5.1 on both the source and server.
