My school is expierenicing slow logins, I suspect it is becuse of a underpowered G5 server (Dual 2ghz but only 512 ram) and anywhere from 30 to 80 people at a time using it. When an lab of 22 machines logs on at the same time I get the spinny wheel but eventually (30 to 90 seconds) everybody logs in and everthing works as it should. My question is “is there anything I can “tune” to speed up this process. ie. set the directory access from using a DHCP supplied LDAP server to a static LDAP server (i’m trying this now). Any advice would be helpful as I’m not sure of how intense the login process is for a server to handle.
