I have just encountered strange issue and wanted to see if anyone else had encountered it. I’m was trying to set up a new server with a new share that would contain user home folders (not the default /Users). I have done this previously on a test machine and it worked fine. However, on this new server, whenever I tried to login a user, it wouldn’t work. I would get the “Unable to log in” message. (Except for the directory admin who’s home folder was stored in the default /Users) I quadrupled checked all the settings and was positive that I was going crazy. The only thing I had done differently on this new machine was to use the Netboot service to create an network install image. I ended up stopping the Netboot service and then everything was okay. I turned the Netboot service back on and it still seems okay.

Has anyone else seen anything similar? Is there something I did in this chain of events that I missed? I now feel a little uneasy about using this server for Netboot install images and for file serving.
