I have a first generation Xserve running 10.3.9.

The Xserve has starting sending emails "Server Problem Notification" regarding an enclosure intrusion.
However, no one has been near the server.

If anyone could provide any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

Make sure the server is seated firmly home in the enclosure – I’ve had this just happen over time, especially if your server screws aren’t done up tightly. Simply opening and closing the server may just clear this up for you.

I tightened the screws. And I did not get any emails for about a week. Then I opened/closed the enclosure like you mentioned and started getting emails within minutes of doing this. I am probably doing something wrong.

Do you know where the sensors are located?

Thanks so much for your help.

Howdy. Certain first generation Xserves had cases that bent over time which I was told are called “Smiling Xserve’s”. I was told they had a recall on these at one point. Anyway, some of ours are smiling and others are not, but I have had this email notification problem from both.

If you pull your Xserve out of its chassis only about an inch, you will see a small metal pin sticking up around the middle of the Xserve along the front display panel. This pin or lever is what detects weather the Xserve has been opened.

I resulted to taping it down securely. I have not had a problem with the email since. Now granted, our Xserves are in a secure data center, so its not as big a deal. If it was out in the middle of nowhere, I would think differently.

    Hope this helps…

…had this prob with a gen 1 xserve as well. my solution was to disconnect the sensor from the mobo…just follow the wires from the sensor and slide the socket off the pins. no ill side effects to speak of…
