I have about 50 users on an XServe (10.3.4 Server) that I need to configure there email using WorkGroup Manager Preferences. Under preferences in WGM I select the Internet and then mail, I type in all requested information but no matter what I do I can not force these preferences to the client. The Web preferences work but the Mail will not.
All machines are bound properly to the server as all other preferences are set properly and group/home directories mount. I just want Mail.app to pick up these preferences so I do not have to configure all email accounts for each user and they move from machine to machine.
workgroup manager does not address mail client prefs, as far as I know – probably pushing a plist for mail out to all the homes would be better (be careful of permissions)
Select a user account, select preferences, select Internet, select Email. According to Apple’s documentation you can push this information to the client machine/user upon log-in. It is done for Safari, it is just perplexing to me why Apple’s Mail application does not work with this?
i had thought you were working from the user accounts section of workgroup manager – perhaps “contacts” in directory access needs to be mapped to the server too? (very tentative hunch)
