Windows reporting weird permissions from Leopard SMB shares

Morning all, I am having a very bizarre and vexing problem right now. It seems like it should be so simple, but I am obviously missing something. I have set up a brand new Xserve to be a file server. Configured OD, no problem, all my Macs are accessing great from both SMB and AFP. But the 4 windows machines are showing all sorts of weird behaviour. I have been able to mount the share, which is good. I can now copy all files it appears which is also good. but everytime I try to open a quicktime file I get an Error -43 on the windows side. I know I have missed something but I don't know what? Thoughts?
