What local domain should I use in the future????

So, Apple have made it clear that NetInfo will eventually go away and Flat Files have been around for ever. Is there any other domain that can be used for local (non-shared) configuration? Is it safe to say that flat-files will always be supported or is this a bad investment? ------ Yemi
