What are the.FBCLockFolder etc

What are the .FBCLockfolder, .FBCIndex, .FBCSemaphorefile, .DS_Store? What are they doing? Why have they appeared on my computer?(OSX 10.1.5) Should I try to get rid of them? Thanks, leo
