UW IMAP/POP3 (where is pop3d)

I installed pine4.55 (UW IMAP/POP3), added pop3d and imapd files to the xinetd.d directory and restarted xinetd but only the imapd process shows. Should not the pop3d process show or will it only be invoked when someone attempts to retrieve mail? this is on an Xserve running 10.2.4 OS X Thanks, Kelsey
